The Loverdrive
The Loverdrive is a sweet little overdrive pedal. Adjustable gain gives you an overdrive effect anywhere from the smallest amount of subtle edge, all the way to full-blown biscuity crunch. The tone dial can tame that bite from sharp to smooth, and the level dial gives you as much output level as you could ever want. As you can see, it's awaiting its graphics, but you'll love it as much as it loves you once they arrive.
The Loverdrive is based on a very old circuit called a μamp, originally designed during the vacuum tube days. The circuit was later modified early in the 1970s to use JFET transistors. It retains all the beautiful smooth clipping characteristics of the old Triode tubes, but today it will fit inside a few square millimeters of surface-mount parts. In the Loverdrive, we've paired this circuit with an additional gain stage, along with tone and level controls for the output.
The Loverdrive comes with a free 9v battery included, which will last for quite a while. It only draws about 10mA of current when active, and about 6mA when bypassed. With a current usage that low, a 9v battery will keep the Loverdrive happy for days on end. You can also plug in any standard centre-negative power supply, and the battery will be disconnected when you do. The Loverdrive contains its own voltage regulation, so you don't need to worry about fancy expensive power supplies. It also contains reverse-polarity protection, so you don't even need to worry about killing it with the wrong kind. Don't give it more than 15 volts though, it might not work anymore if you do. It will work perfectly happily anywhere up to 12 volts, in case that happens to be a power supply you have kicking around.
